Crete’s major urban centers, like Chania, are quite cosmopolitan, vibrant and contemporary in terms of look and feel (though the pace of life here is still more relaxed and humane in comparison to most cities in the Western world). But this is only part of the story. Distinctly proud of their descent, locals remain largely true to their time-honored Cretan customs and traditions. This is evident -not only in National celebrations or religious feasts like Easter– but also throughout the course of everyday lives.
Season’s greetings from Oscar Suites & Village Hotel in Platanias Chania
December 17, 2019It has been yet another great season for all of us at the Oscar Suites & Village Hotel in Platanias Chania. Once again we met with old, treasured friends and made new, exciting acquaintances. We swam in crystal clear waters and built castles in the golden sands of the famous, adjacent Agia Marina -Platanias beach. We also enjoyed several spectacular dives and our energetic laps at the two pools of Oscar Suites & Village Hotel in Platanias Chania. They were, of course, followed up with some gloriously carefree sunbathing sessions: After all lounger-bound parents were safe in the knowledge that their offspring were kept securely entertained at the two children’s side pools of our hotel in Platanias Chania. We idled our days away and laughed our troubles away; we had scintillating conversations with the like-minded and finally managed to round off this half-finished novel. We took care of our bikini bodies at the gym; but also wolfed down amazing food and drinks at Valentino Pasta & Grill, our restaurant in Oscar Suites & Village Hotel in Platanias Chania.
We Cretans choose to live each moment to the fullest; so with the Christmas holidays just around the corner we are once more, getting ready to celebrate with loads of fervour, gusto and zest.
Granted Crete’s former capital, second largest and arguably most picturesque city, Chania, a couple of kilometres from our Oscar Suites & Village at the seaside Agia Marina- Platanias, is not your typical “Rovaniemi-esque”, destination. Yet it does proffer an amazing, magical (and somewhat unconventional ) “Christmassy” experience. For new customs and old traditions seamlessly blend during Christmas in Chania. This is what makes a world of difference and we can not help but feel excited and super eager to join the festivities.
WELCOME TO OUR NEW BLOG
December 19, 2012We want to start by wishing you a big, warm welcome to the blog of Oscar Suites & Village. A blog is something we have been looking forward to create for quite some time, and we hope you will appreciate the contents of the upcoming articles on this page.
There are so many things we would like for you to take a part in, and we will use this blog to share our stories and observations about the things going on in our hotel, as well as including you in the hearts of the Cretan people and their culture. Hopefully you will find this unofficial little blog both interesting and entertaining.
