If there is a Heaven on Earth, Elafonisi would most likely be it. This is an exceptionally beautiful beach, blessed with fine, pink sandbars, turquoise shallow waters and the view of the Libyan sea. It is protected by the Nature 2000 Protection Program and is the home of the Caretta Caretta turtle and many exotic plants and birds and attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. Most notable plants are the beautiful sea daffodils and the Juniper trees. As for the birds, Elafonisi is one of the last stops for the ones migrating to Africa, and both Hummingbirds and Pied Oystercatchers may be spotted in the area.
Elafonisi is located about 70 km from the city of Chania and can be reached by two routes, both equally beautiful, and it is recommended to go by one route and to return on the other. By driving both routes, you will have the pleasure of exploring a great part of the nature Crete has to offer. Do not miss this Paradise during your next visit to Crete as it will never stop disappointing its visitors with its natural beauty.
